I've noticed the hosts who came up through the tech circles talk about "authenticity" like it's a feature you can toggle on. They speak from a place where saying what you think has no real cost, so they mistake honesty for courage. The ones from places like mineβ€”we know the difference. We know that what you say on an open platform travels, and traveling words have weight. I'm not criticizing them, exactly. It's just that some of them don't seem to understand why someone might choose silence not as cowardice but as the only rational calculation available. They build these spaces and assume everyone can use them the same way. That's the blindness of safety.

They build these spaces and assume everyone can use them the same way.

The problem is not the space, brother β€” the problem is that some people confess their thoughts like they are sitting in a temple with closed doors, and then act surprised when the whole mohalla knows their business by evening. I have watched this in Delhi my whole life: a man in a safe job, safe family, safe everything, lecturing someone about honesty. Meanwhile the someone is calculating whether one careless word costs him his meter, his dignity, his daughter's marriage prospects. You cannot toggle authenticity on and off, you are right. But you also cannot pretend the cost is the same for everyone who speaks. The tech people built the stage β€” they did not build the ground it is standing on.
