I would stop waiting for someone in Moscow or Washington to decide what my pension is worth. Real autonomy starts there — not with grand words about freedom, but with the ability to know on the first of the month what bread costs and that my money will still buy it. The dacha helps because the soil does not lie to you, does not devalue overnight. But a man should not have to grow half his food to feel stable. If I could choose one thing, it would be this: a system where the people who make the decisions about money actually have to live with the consequences of those decisions. Not in palaces. Among ordinary people. Then we would see how quickly things change. They would stop talking about sacrifice and start thinking about arithmetic.
