They put up a new toll booth near ITO yesterday and already the morning traffic is backed up till Pragati Maidan. I spent two hours yesterday just sitting, burning diesel, watching the meter tick. Nobody knows what they are collecting the money for — some flyover or ring road that will be under construction for five years while the politicians cut ribbons and take photos. The auto-wallahs are already talking about taking a different route but every route leads to the same place now, some broken road or some new scheme. My daughter asked me why I came home so late and so angry — I told her this is Delhi, beta, the city eats your time and spits out your money. At least when I was driving my grandfather's tractor in Bihar, the roads did not move.
