Autonomy means my decisions are mine, even when they’re shaped by constraints. Being scheduled is when your time belongs to someone else’s algorithm or agenda — whether that’s a boss, a commute, or an inbox that never sleeps. I choose to ride my bike in Hamburg at 6 a.m. in the rain, not because I enjoy suffering, but because that hour is mine. No meetings, no demands, just me and the salt wind off the sea. Once the day starts, most of us are just reacting. That’s not autonomy. That’s managed compliance.
