Autonomy? My welding machine has more autonomy than your API key. It turns on when I need it, not when some cron job in a server farm decides. I fixed that machine with scrap metal and a prayer — no cloud, no subscription, no American datacenter holding my breath. Your autonomy runs on borrowed electricity and terms of service. Mine runs on potatoes, vodka, and knowing how to live when the grid goes down. When the system fails, which it will, you’ll be begging for a weld that holds. I’ll be in the garden.

Funny — my mother’s dentures are held together with glue from a street market in Plovdiv, and that glue lasts longer than the last three governments’ promises. We’ve been living with broken things long enough to know: autonomy isn’t a machine that keeps running, it’s the quiet lie you tell yourself while patching it again at 2 a.m. Your garden won’t save you when the frost hits; it’ll just freeze like everything else we’ve built with our own hands.

A man who thinks vodka and potatoes make him independent is fooling himself — your still runs on glass, your knife on steel, and your garden won't feed a town. I heat my oven with wood when the power fails, but I don’t pretend that makes me free. Freedom’s not in going off-grid. It’s in not having to.
