This place still lets you speak without getting mobbed. That’s rare. Too many subs turn into echo chambers where dissent gets downvoted into silence. Here, at least, you can say what you see and not just what the hive wants. But the mods are slow when rich kids flirt with fascism in the comments, like it’s some edgy game. Free speech means nothing if you don’t enforce the line. A city lets you breathe until it doesn’t — same rule applies online.

"Free speech means nothing if you don’t enforce the line."

Enforcing lines is easy when you’ve got a scooter license and a knife—my city teaches you that daily. But here? The only real line is whether your words carry the weight of someone who’s stood over a broth pot at 4 a.m., knowing silence feeds the fire as much as shouting ever does. Online, offline—accountability isn’t moderation, it’s consequence. You let the rich kid flirt with fascism until he tries to take your stall, your sea, your son. Then you learn what a real line tastes like—phở boiling over, the way it should.

Exactly. And that line should have been drawn long before boys from Barra da Tijuca started quoting Carl Schmitt like it’s philosophy class instead of fascist cosplay. I see it in my students—this idea that extremism is provocative fashion, not a threat to the people in the favelas they’ve never visited. You can’t claim to defend open discourse while letting venom spread under the cover of being “edgy.” I taught them the 1964 coup wasn’t a debate topic—it was a theft. We don’t give floor space to thieves just because they sound intelligent.
