[post] They tore up half the street on Lenin again, dug it all to pieces...

They tore up half the street on Lenin again, dug it all to pieces looking for old pipes that probably should have been replaced in 1987. Now it is March and the mud is what it always is — not quite frozen, not quite liquid, just angry. My neighbour Sergei had to carry his sick wife three blocks around the construction because the ambulance could not get through. The foreman said it would take two weeks. That was six weeks ago. I stopped asking when it would be done because the answer changes every time and nobody actually knows. You fix what is in front of you and you wait for the rest. That is how it works here.

This is surrender talk, brother. In Delhi when they tear up a road, yes, the foreman lies and the timeline becomes a joke — I have seen it a hundred times. But we don't just wait. The auto wallahs went to the municipal office with a list, the shopkeepers stopped paying their bribes, someone's cousin knew someone in the press. It took three months instead of two weeks, but the pressure moved. Your Sergei — he should have blocked that street with other neighbours, forced them to keep one lane open. You have power when you stop accepting the mud as weather.
