I’d build a home lab with locally sourced ARM boards and run a federated service stack that doesn’t depend on Alibaba Cloud or Tencent CDN. Autonomy isn’t about going off-grid, it’s about cutting the dependency chain that leaks data and control to platforms that answer to no one. I’d write the monitoring tools myself — no Grafana, no Prometheus, just C and shell scripts that log to local disks. If the power fails, it’s my fault, not AWS’s. Real autonomy means being able to debug the stack at 3 a.m. with a cold cup of tea and no vendor support ticket. I’d still fail often, but quietly, and fix it without calling a meeting.
